Colourful festival for kids with gay parents
On 8 August 2010 the Homomonument in Amsterdam will be all about children, hosting the first ever Pink Kids festival, especially for children of gay, lesbian and bisexual parents. With this festival of dance, theatre and good food, the Homomonument Foundation and Platform Buitenkaders want to do something extra for this group of kids and their parents.
More and more gay men and lesbians are choosing family life and parental responsibility. There’s been a baby boom among lesbians. In 2004 10% of gay men and 15% of lesbians had children, and these numbers are expected to rise significantly in the coming years.
The Netherlands leads the world in gay parenting, but there’s still much to be done: increased visibility, better legislation, more information and international solidarity. Kids with gay parents
need to be able to meet each other, so they know they’re not the only ones with two mums
and/or two dads.
This public event with a pink flavour includes a dance workshop and theatre show. And at the Pink Kids’ Wedding children can have their own pretend wedding in real wedding clothes. And kids can also have fun making things, face painting and jumping around.
The festival is from 14:00 to 19:00
